India has become the member of International Trademark System

 

As to April 08, 2013 India joint Madrid Protocol for the international registrations of trademarks. In this regard, the number of member countries reached 90. 

WIPO Director General Francis Gurry remarks:

"India’s accession to the international trademark system, as with the recent accessions by Colombia, Mexico, New Zealand and Philippines, signals an era of significant geographical expansion of the Madrid system, which offers greater benefit to right holders worldwide”. 

It has been announced by WIPO that the treaty for India will enter into force on July 8, 2013.
